History

1979 was a year to be remembered, not because of events like "Chinese/American Friendship", 30th Anniversary of Peoples Republic of China, the worldwide eradication of small pox or the Russians invading Afghanistan, etc. No no no, the real main reason that makes that year so important is: all 1979 band members were born in that year, one year later they became one year old, two years later they became two years old ... 24 years later when they became 24 years old they found the band 1979 in February 2004, thank you everyone for listening!!!

Our story begins in the 80s during our childhood. At that time we had no chance to get to know rock music such as punk or metal. The songs that entered our ears everyday and that we were humming were all those popular Canton-pop songs from Hong Kong and college folk songs from Taiwan. As time passed, all those sounds that we heard when we were children left an indelible mark on our hearts, and they are still unforgettable to this day.

After we started to like rock music, we took all the songs that we used to like put them aside. But good songs are ultimately good songs, so the ones that had a place in our hearts couldn’t go away. Then we had this idea: if the heavens could give us an opportunity to let us turn the songs that we used to like into rock and roll songs, then that would be even better.

The one thing that I didn’t realize was that Ye Jingying and Tian Jianhua already had this idea, but for some particular reason they couldn’t accomplish their goals. Since everyone liked the old songs, and everyone liked the songs that were similar to those songs, then we should just have a band that did remixes of the old songs. So I called Guo Feng and told him my idea, and I said “Hai, I didn’t think that these people would be crazy about the old songs, and back when Ye Jingying wanted to do a cover band. Ha, that’s how we formed our band, awesome!

Oh yeah, one more thing. Even though we formed to because we wanted to make a cover band, we still want to work really hard to create our own music. Now this group has a new member, and everyone probably hasn’t seen her while we performed. She is our webmaster and keyboardist “Icing baby” Miss Yu Nana. Now even though she is currently backstage, I still think everyone should get to meet her some time!! That's all!
