Art Scene China, a Chinese art gallery in Shanghai and Beijing

Art Scene China has two venues in Shanghai and one space in Beijing. The Gallery specializes in Chinese contemporary art by both emerging and well-established Chinese artists.

Established in 1997, Art Scene China has participated in important international art expositions, including Art Cologne, Art Chicago, Art Miami, San Francisco International Art Expo and CIGE. Art Scene China also regularly cooperates with galleries and institutions internationally to exhibit Chinese artworks around the world.


General information

Art Scene China's main goal is for people in China and internationally to be able to enjoy and become familiar with the fascinating contemporary Chinese art scene. The Gallery makes the artworks also available for sale. Additionally, Art Scene China provides corporate leasing and private consulting for international art institutes and pre-eminent museums such as the Guggeheim (New York), Museum of Modern Art (New York) and the Asian Art Museum (San Francisco).

In 2005, Art Scene China created and managed the Chinese Art Prize (CAP) by Yue-Sai Kan (it was origianally called the Dragonair Emerging Chinese Art Awards). The Chinese Art Prize is the first art competition of its kind to focus on young, emerging Chinese artists born after 1975, and open to all entries with no fees. The first Chinese Art Prize received about 800-900 applicants. An important panel of international curators and art critics select the top 20 and ultimately the top 3 artists’ works. Some of the jury members of have included jury president Gerard Goodrow (Director of Art Cologne), Jeff Kelley (Curator of the Asian Art Museum), Li Lei (Executive Director of the Shanghai Art Museum), Dr Marion Ackermann (Director of the Museum of Art, Stuttgart) and Zhong Biao (well-known Chinese contemporary artist).
