History

Mya Audrey is a pop/jazz singer and pianist from Switzerland.

As a young child Mya Audrey Nydegger had a musical ear and a fine sense for rhythm. Hearing music she immediately started singing and dancing. During her basic education in classic piano she was already much interested in improvisation. At her home she not only listened to classical music she also got acquainted with Jazz. Inspired by artists like Errol Garner, Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson and Nat King Cole and later also Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Joni Mitchell, U2, Sting and others, and upon graduation (Matura) from school she decided to study contemporary music with her focus on Jazz.

In summer 2002 she graduated with a dual degree in piano and voice from the Hochschule der Künste Bern section Swiss Jazz School. During her studies she attended many workshops in Switzerland and abroad and participated in a number of competitions, i.e. „First Vocal Competition in Montreux“ under the patronage of Quincy Jones.

Since 2000 Mya works as a professional musician and since 2001 she is the leader of her band „Mya N“. Her first album was sponsored by Swiss Radio DRS II after winning der Generations Award 2000 in Frauenfeld. In autumn 2004 her second album was produced by all star production. After touring Switzerland and following 3 TV performances, the third album is now produced for release in spring 2010 under the name of „Mya Audrey“.

In addition to her activity as a songwriter, Mya has also been performing as solist for some years; (Piano-Off-Stage Festival in Lucerne 2004/2006/2009, & at the „Terrasse“ in Zürich and the „Des Arts“ in Basel on a weekly basis). Apart from this solo performances she is also working as a pianist and/or vocalist in a number of projects with musicians of the national or international Jazz and Pop scene A special highlight in summer 2008 was the invitation to the Olymphic Games in Beijing to perform at the „House of Switzerland“ & the LAN Club before an international audience. On the agenda for 2010 are further concerts abroad, i.e. in Perth, Australia in January and again in Grenada (Caribbean Island) in March.
